Highlight your Career Progression. In addition to your Degree in Pharmacy, are there any certifications you have obtained, or are you currently pursuing any that you would like to mention?

My name is Dr. Anne Kiarie, I am a certified palliative care pharmacist. I obtained my certification from Nairobi Hospice in palliative care and currently pursuing a higher diploma on the same from Oxford Brookes University

What are you most passionate about in your Pharmacy practice?

I am very passionate about improving my patients’ quality of life.

What do you love about being a Pharmacist?

I love the endless opportunities that come with being a pharmacist.

As a pharmacist, I become the link between the patient and the doctor, giving a unique perspective into many facets of healthcare.

What has been your most challenging moment in the profession, and what were your lessons from it?

Losing patients, primarily paediatric patients, due to misinformation, inability to access much-needed treatment and delays in the initiation of therapy.

What keeps you going?

Seeing my patients healthier, happier, and full of hope keeps me going.

In addition to being a Pharmacist, what else do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy reading books, travelling and volunteer work.

What can you say to the young Pharmacist?

Believe in yourself, always ask for help when need be, don’t settle for less and remember your network is your net worth. Building a solid network is essential for success in any industry.

Is there something else you’d like us to add to your feature?

Palliative care doesn’t start at the end of life.

It starts right from diagnosis.

We can’t change the outcome, but we can change the journey.
